I understand why people have this take. It may come from a good place but that doesn't mean it goes to a good place. When people want to jettison what they feel is an imposed idea of "religion" then they're in turn imposing their own boutique definition of what it means to relate to Jesus. That gets closer to creating your own personal religion.
Exactly. It's well intentioned and it sounds good, but what I was getting at toward the end is that it can be dangerous. Think about how many have had their worldview or opinion about Jesus or religion shaped by this premise...
It speaks to the power that comes from a medium like YouTube, but the internet in general. This message has a bigger footprint than the average sermon of many faithful pastors will ever have, through no fault of their own. It's why these spaces are important.
