“The Lord protects all those who love him, but he destroys the wicked.” Psalm 145:20
I recently read about a man from Croatia named Bosada. In the midst of an ethnic conflict in his country, Bosada agreed to look after his Serbian neighbor’s property, unaware that the entire village would be attacked the very next day. Soldiers captured Bosada and his daughter, subjecting each of them to extensive torture.
Before being forced to walk through a minefield as a kind of “punishment of freedom,” Bosada told his captors: “You can kill our bodies, but you cannot kill our souls. What you’ve done is wrong, but I will go to heaven. Where will you go? I know my Redeemer lives. Why don’t you turn to my redeemer?” Miraculously, both Bosada and his daughter safely crossed the minefield and returned to their village without further harm.
What a story, right? This is a story of trusting in God’s preservation. Their faith wasn’t just about survival; it was a testimony to God’s sustaining presence despite their circumstances. This passage from Psalm 145 illustrates the same promise. The world is usually full of uncertainty and it’s easy to feel insecure. But you have to remind yourself, sometimes daily or even several times a day, that true safety isn’t found in stable circumstances anyway. It’s only found in trusting in God.
If you belong to God and love him, He will protect you. So today, no matter the "minefield" before you, remember that the safest place to be is in the presence of God. Seek Him, trust Him, and rest in the peace that only He can provide.
