"They were to accompany him, and he would send them out to preach, giving them authority to cast out demons.” Mark 3:14-15
You may feel like you’re unqualified to serve Jesus. Maybe you can’t let go of your past failures, or maybe you’re like Moses and think you don’t have the right ability. If so, let me encourage you to look at a lesson we learn from the disciples. God does not call the qualified. Instead, he qualifies those he calls!
The sequence here is significant. Yesterday, we learned that the disciples were appointed to be mentored by Jesus so they could mentor others. Once they were appointed, they became anointed for the ministry Jesus gave them. Divine empowerment to accomplish the task only came after their commitment to follow.
In the Old Testament, we see the pivotal role the Spirit of God plays in anointing figures like Saul or David for a specific task. In the same way, the Holy Spirit equips you for the specific task or ministry God’s given you. Again, it has nothing to do with your qualifications or credentials. The anointing of the Holy Spirit allows you to accomplish what these things alone never could.
In this case, the disciples were specifically anointed by Christ to bring healing and deliverance. You might not have this exact calling, but the call to comfort the afflicted and bring hope through sharing the gospel are indeed the same.
Today, reflect on your own life. Is there a specific area you sense God calling you to this life of action?
Will you say “yes” to him, knowing that if he’s called you to something, He will equip you to do it?
This was adapted from a recent sermon by my pastor. You can watch the sermon here.
Thank you, Broxton. I needed this today. 🙏
